Hayear HY-1080 4K Microscope
This is a full review of the Hayear HY-1080 Microscope. I go into the ups and downs of this Microscope.
Back story. I owned and did a review of the Mustool G700 Microscope in hopes I could use it for SMD soldering and recording everything for YouTube content. Unfortunately, it’s just not that good as it had a date stamp you cannot remove. Even connecting to the PC using USB 2.0 has such a delay. So this is where this Microscope comes in.
I wanted a Microscope that has good detail, can record 1080P via HDMI, better USB 2.0 streaming, 4K quality and no date stamps encoded on the images and video.
This Microscope seemed to fit that criteria and more. The ability to have a built-in Microphone and Wifi control with a remote sounded perfect.
However, some things are not to be.
So these are the pros and cons of this device.

PROS AND CONS
Pros
- The recording quality is really nice.
- The image capture does record in the resolutions it claims to have and is noticeable when you zoom into the image.
- The HDMI out quality is not bad. It should be improved though.
- The USB 2.0 video delay is around half a second.
That’s not too bad as I’ve seen lots of other devices with a delay of around 1 1/2 seconds. The quality is quite good as well. - The stand is built really well.
The stand adjustment height knobs at first are extremely tight but if you move it up and down a few times and put some kind of grease like wheel bearing grease on the teeth it will move a lot easier. Perfect for fine touches to focus. - The lights can move.
The lights are bright, do get warm at max brightness. - The stand is black.
This is helpful so extra unnecessary light doesn’t reflect back into the sensor. - The 150X lens is nicely built.
I had some extra grease on the lens but was able to clean it off with Isopropyl Alcohol. The zoom on it is extremely good for inspecting solder welds. It does have a 25MM female thread on the bottom so you can add extra attachments like the 20X Achromatic Objective Lens. Hayear told me you won’t be able to see anything with the 40X Achromatic Objective Lens. So don’t bother purchasing it.
If you are going to use the Objective Lens for things like Microscope slides you will need a bottom LED light source. You can use this one. http://www.ioioa.com/Show.aspx?PID=453 - Date & Timestamps can be disabled.
I hate it when these are hardcoded into the video and images. Luckily you can turn it off. - The screen can be adjusted at different angles of view.
- Connects to OBS easily.
This is a big one. For someone like me, OBS is the way to go and it connects like a champ. - Extra attachments can be used.
Cons
- HDMI outputs 1080i
There is no settings to change the HDMI output to 1080P. However, it down looks bad. You can see the checkerboard rendering grid but you really need to be looking to see it. - The threading on the microscope body is glued into place by the sensor.
You can easily break the glue and the 150x lens won’t stay on the screen body. An easy fix is to use Teflon tape and wrap it around the threads a few times. Then push it back into the camera body where the sensor is. Works great and you don’t use glue. - No built-in microphone
- It does not come with a battery.
This is not an important thing anyway as the lights are in the base and you need them powered too. So if you want it portable. I recommend a battery bank. - Freezing at random.
The firmware should be updated to resolve these problems. I’ve even had a BSOD from having it plugged into my PC, but only once. - The Wifi Action Camera App can cause the microscope to freeze when you change the resolution from 720P to 1080P.
Wifi Action Camera App

This is a really handy tool. You can control the Microscope from an app on your phone.
Just download the Wifi Action Camera App on these services
- Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=Wifi%20Action%20Camera&c=apps - Apple App Store
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/wifi-action-camera/id917189681
How to setup
- Download Wifi Action Camera
- Open Wifi Action Camera
- Press Connect Camera
- Go to your WiFi settings
- Press WIFI button on the remote your Microscope came with.
- You should now see (HY-1080dea01f2aee74) or something close to it in your WiFi.
- Connect to it.
- Should prompt you with a password. It should be 12345678.
If not just look at the Microscope screen. Might say something like this: PWA2:12345678 - After connecting now press Connect Camera on the Wifi Action Camera
- You now should see your live feed from the Microscope.

What can you do with it?
- You can record and take pictures.
All the videos and images “media” are stored on the Hayear HY-1080 MicroSD card on the Microscope. - You can copy the “media” from the MicroSD card on the Hayear HY-1080 Microscope to your phone’s local gallery.

At the moment you can’t record 1080P only 720P. If you change the settings, the Hayear HY-1080 will freeze, unfortunately.
Still great if you want to share something if you don’t have a computer.

Some Screenshots
These are some screenshots. Please note that the quality is degraded as the rest of the images on this website to preserve bandwidth.
But don’t worry. I have some RAW images here on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19ovAlKqNnlxsozeO2FrpG5JH8fqJNLR3

Remote Control
Not much to say about it but has these buttons
- Record / Menu / Picture / Gallery / Cross Hair / Play/Pause / Aperture / AWB / AE / Flip Vertical / Flip Horizontal / NTL/PAL / To screen positive and negatives that don’t work / Some snowflake that does nothing and Wifi.
- The arrow pad Up zooms in.
- The arrow pad Down zooms out.
- The arrow pad Left and right again does nothing.

PCB

Still not sure what the processor is but the black chip on the left of it is a Samsung 2Gb F-die DDR3L SDRAM x16 (K4B2G1646F)
Here’s a PDF of it. https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/global.semi/file/resource/2017/11/DS_K4B2G1646F_BY_M_Rev1_0-1.pdf
My Last Thoughts
It’s a fairly good Microscope. It will serve its purpose for upcoming YouTube videos.
